Mary Berg
I support Rocket and his Rangers as rescue is just my life! I have lived in Minnesota, Hawaii, West Virginia and Massachusetts but it was not until I moved to Arizona in 1999 that I truly became involved in rescue! My first rescue was a small, scared and sad female golden retriever (who was adopted into a great home where she just blossomed!) and ever since then I have shared my home with my own rescues plus foster dogs, puppies, cats and kittens! The occasional bird finds its way to me but they always go off to bird rescue as fast as possible. At last count over 100 dogs and 100 cats have shared my home with us as fosters. From newborns to senior citizens and from less than a pound little stray kittens to over 100 pound Baron we have all coexisted! Some have been here for just a few days to a few that have been here for close to a year before they found their very own forever homes.
People always ask me if it is hard to see a foster get adopted and yes it is with mixed emotions when I give them a hug and turn them over to their new families. I am always glad to have been a part of their lives when they needed me most and I am also in tears as I say good bye and know that I may not get to see them again. My rule is always that they must go into a better home than I can provide and it always makes me happy to see them going into a situation where they will get all that I have to offer PLUS way more attention than I could ever give them!
The other part of my life is spent helping 22 Leona Group schools provide over 7,000 Arizona students and parents a choice in education. I really enjoy my job as on a daily basis I work with a team that supports Special Education, English Language Learners, Curriculum/Instruction/Assessment, and Data management in order to allow students to learn in small safe campus environments.
I am truly fortunate to have a career in education that I love and the support of the great rescue community in Phoenix.
